The particulars boil down to business moves: Bungie, the studio behind the Destiny games, regained full control over the series after parting ways with publisher Activision earlier in 2019. That left Destiny 2, which was only available to PC players through the Activision Blizzard-owned video game launcher Battle.net, without a home.
Enter Steam, the popular online gaming store and community platform. Destiny 2moved there on Oct. 1, the same day a big chunk of the game went free-to-play. And thanks to Steam's less stringent policies around the display names people can use in their online games, players have noticed a distinct change in the lineups of online lobbies.

Just head to your profile page in the Steam client, click the "Edit Profile" button, and write whatever you want your display name to be in the "Profile Name" text field, near the top of the page. Simple.
