Von Sydow played Father Merrin in The Exorcistand was nominated for two Oscars during his career (the only Swedish actor to be nominated), for Pelle the Conquerorin 1987 and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Closein 2011. His final episode was "The Door," in which Bran learns the truth of Hodor's past and officially takes over when von Sydow's Raven dies.
