The music streamer is carrying out tests in Sweden, where its headquarters are located, with lines in the app's code referencing the new feature. A spokesperson from Spotify confirmed to Techcrunch that the test was happening, but that it was currently localised to Sweden only.

To clarify, this doesn't necessarily mean that users in Sweden will be getting emergency pop-ups from Spotify anytime soon. The company is clearly fiddling around with code for the feature, but internal tests might be as far as it's going for now. Although emergency alerts might sound like a bit of a departure from Spotify's usual offering, it's not necessarily the biggest leap. Other tech giants like Google and Apple have various safety features, and Facebook has had a Safety Check feature for years.
